2005 Annual Cultural Gathering
Each year Metro is host to a huge gathering of members to bring together the community and celebrate Aboriginal culture and family values. For 2005, the members decided on Jambaroo Recreation Park near Wollongong as the venue for the gathering. The children entertained themselves with the waterslides and mountain rides while parents were able to join in or relax in the shade. The highlight for the day being ‘Black Santa’ who arrived on a golf buggy to the surprise of everyone including other visitors to the park on the day. The Annual Cultural Gatherings have become one of the biggest events of the year for our members with attendance reaching more than 500 people. Events such as these give the members and their families something to look forward to and really bring the community spirit alive. Members always volunteer their time with cooking, supervising, helping Santa, and even ‘Black Santa’, this year it was Joseph Walker.
