Cultural Promotions
A function of Land Councils under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act is the promotion and protection of Aboriginal culture and heritage in their local area.

Metro and its members are committed to promoting the protection of Aboriginal culture, customs and heritage and continually work towards this goal. Metro understand that Aboriginal culture, as with all cultures is dynamic and will continue to develop over time. In traditional terms Aboriginal culture and heritage encompasses a variety of customs such as dance, art, song, corroborees, women’s business, men’s business, sorry business and many other practices.
For Aboriginal people these traditions still exist and are just as important today as they were for our elders and ancestors. The modern expression of Aboriginal culture includes contemporary art, dance, theatre, music, literature and sport. All Aboriginal people can ensure the promotion and protection of Aboriginal culture, customs and heritage. Metro seeks to give members as well as office bearers and staff opportunities to promote Aboriginal culture.
