For The Media
Because of historical factors, Aboriginal people can often be wary of the media. This is one of the reasons why the mainstream media has often not accurately reflected the achievements and aspirations of the local indigenous community. Metro Land Council is committed to working with journalists to turn this situation around.
Metro strives to at all times ensure that its organizational views are accessible. We aim to be as open and transparent as possible in our dealings with the media and respect journalists’ deadlines and the need for timely responses. However, from time to time, this approach may have to be balanced against privacy, cultural and commercial considerations.
Metro’s Chairperson is the organisation’s principal spokesperson and where possible all public comments are made by him.
Metro spokespeople are able to make informed comment on the following categories:
¬ Aboriginal commercial activity particularly property development
¬ Protection of Aboriginal culture and sites of significance
¬ Operation of the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act and other relevant pieces of legislation;
¬ Aboriginal housing
¬ Aboriginal social justice and community development issues
¬ Land rights, reconciliation and Aboriginal empowerment
